Tina Turner (born Annie Mae Bullock) was born on this day in 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee. She met Ike Turner in the early 1950's at a Saint Louis club. Soon after, she began singing with his band on occasional engangements, and in 1959, formed the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. After separating from Ike and the band, she built an even more successful career on her own, which included the multipaltinum Private Dancer (1985) and seven Grammy Awards.

In 1991 Tina Turner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She also posesses a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 1993, 'What's Love Got To Do With It?" starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne was made.
In 1995, she recorded the title theme of the James Bond movie Goldeneye, penned by Bono and The Edge of U2.
In 2005, The Kennedy Center Honors selected Tina Turner as one of the Kennedy Center Honorees.
Tina Turner has done many world tours and has many adorning fans all over the world and she continues to make appearances and collaborations.
In 2005, on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Tina Turner said any future tours would be conducted before she turns 70, which would be in 2009. Billboard Magazine also has reported that Tina Turner is working on a new album.
