James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born November 27th, 1942 in Seattle, Washington – September 18th, 1970 in London) was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Widely hailed by music fans and critics alike, Hendrix is considered to be one of the most influential electric guitarists in rock music history. He achieved worldwide fame in 1967 playing at the Monterey Pop Festival, then headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival before his sudden death in 1970, at the age of 27. Jimi Hendrix would have been 64 today. His music has influenced many artists such as Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Earth, Wind and Fire, Living Colour, Sting and many, many more especially in the electric guitar world.

There was a made-for-tv movie called 'Hendrix' in 2000 starring actor Wood Harris from The Wire. There have been several names floated to play Jimi Hendrix on the big screen. Lenny Kravitz and Andre 3000 are two so far but as you can imagine, there are many legal issues that have to be cleared with his estate for the project to proceed if it ever does.

I first got into the music of Jimi Hendrix in the mid 1990's when I was in my mid 20's. That is when I started buying Hendrix books, Hendrix magazines and Hendrix albums and really began in earnest studying the man, his life and his music. He is definitely a musician I wish I could have seen live in his day. The Jimi Hendrix albums I have heard are:

Are You Experienced? (1967)
Axis: Bold As Love (1967)
Electric Ladyland (1968)
Band of Gypsys (1970)
Live At Woodstock (1969)
Merry Christmas/Happy New Year (1999 - Remastered)
*The Jimi Hendrix Experience [MCA Purple Velvet Boxset] (2000) *A great place to start for new Jimi Hendrix fans.
Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues: Jimi Hendrix (2003)

There are many more on my wishlist that Experience Hendrix has released but here are some videos of my favorites:

Hey, Joe

Purple Haze

All Along The WatchTower (1970) The Isle of Wight

The Wind Cries Mary (1967) Stockholm
