My Quest For The Washington Post ELECTION SPECIAL Commemorative Edition

On my way to work this morning, I stopped by CVS to get The Washington Post ELECTION SPECIAL Commemorative Edition. SOLD OUT! Then I swung by Giant. SOLD OUT! Fast forward to the end of my day and getting off of work. Swung by Giant again. SOLD OUT! So, I swung by CVS again. SOLD OUT! This time in CVS, there was a line of about 25 people all waiting for the Washington Post ELECTION SPECIAL Commemorative Evening Edition which was scheduled to hit the streets after 6 pm.

Me (to 3 people in line): "Has the evening edition come in yet?"
Woman: (hunches shoulders with a pretty smile): "I don't know."
Me (to 2 men in line): "Has the evening edition come in yet?"
Man: "Truck supposed to be on its way now."
Me: Thanks!

I was going to wait around but something told me to just head on downtown. So, I decided to skip the wait and hopped on the Metro Rail towards downtown D.C. Stopped by one of my favorite little Newspaper Stores and as I expected, the line was out the door!

Of course with so many people in line, general passerby were inquiring left and right.

Passerby Inquiries: "What's going on? Who are you in line for? What's inside?"
Group Response: "The Washington Post ELECTION SPECIAL Commemorative Edition! Barack and Family on the cover!"
Passerby Responses: OH! (Quickly getting in line too!) LOL!

To make a long story short, the newspaper store allowed us one copy per person of The Washington Post but as many Washington Times as our hearts desired. LOL!

After I got my one copy, I swung around the corner to The Washington Post building on 15th & L, going totally on a wish and a whim and low and behold, the line was out the door their too, but these lines were moving more quickly! A good sign!

I quickly got in line and quickly got directed in and found out The Washington Post were selling The Washington Post ELECTION SPECIAL Commemorative Editions at $2.00 a pop. 50 cents higher than the Newsstand $1.50 price and everyone could buy a max of 5 each! They were selling like hotcakes and I do mean hotcakes!

So I pay my dough, get my 5 papers and get the heck out of dodge!

From what I heard on the news afterwards, A few papers made it onto eBay (as much as $100 a copy, with the bidding still going) or Craigslist ($50, "still in plastic bag").

Wow, that was fun! I was hustling and I got what I was looking for and much more! And I got a little history memento for myself and family to boot. I love it when The Washington Post does their Special Editions and Commemorative Editions and these are sure to be collectors items! History in the making!
