ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY (WUSA) -- To the United States Air Force he was retired Chief Master Sergeant Rupert Strickland. To Channel 9 viewers he was Bob Srickland, general assignment reporter, who showed up in their homes on TV for nearly three decades, reporting on everything from City hall, to the streets to the White House.

Bob Strickland was eulogized at the Fort Meyer Chapel and then buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full honors including taps and a gun salute. His former colleagues joined family members in bidding him farewell.

He was a pro who helped break in every young reporter who walked into the number one newsroom in Washington.

Bob was on the Board of Directors for the Big Brothers and Sisters organization. He practically single handedly directed the stations acclaimed Reporter-Writer training program which produced scores of journalism professionals now working all over the country.

Bob passed away late last month. He was 75. He retired from Channel 9 in the late 1990's.
