I finally had a chance over the weekend to take an up close look at the Sirius Stiletto2 and the XM2go Inno.
For those who have been aware of XM and Sirius Radio, you are already in the loop. For folks like me who knew the generals about both of them but had no idea both were in a portable "Walkman" fashion now, now we know! LOL!
The last time I checked into this story they were just getting ready to release the mobile "Walkman" version of each. Did I just say Walkman? The term we used in the 80s when Walkman's first came out? LOL! ;) Those were the days.
After spending over an hour in the store, I came to the conclusion that they both have thier positives and negatives but it all depends on what the consumer is looking for in a satellite radio at the present time. It seems to get down to what channels you are into.
Do you like NFL Football and NASCAR? Sirius would be the way to go. Are you into Formula Racing and Black Talk Radio? XM would be your choice. There are hundreds of channels to choose from but one thought that kept running through my mind is "when these two merge, how will this be?" and "should I just wait for the merger?" and "when will they merge again?"

There are also some features the Stiletto2 has over the XM2go Inno which include 100 Recording Hours over XM's 50 and some mp3 capabilities over XM's.
I decided to wait because for the $100 difference in price and once again listening to all the channel selections, I couldn't quite come to a final decision especially given the upcoming merger and that we will actually be able to pick what channels we want to pay for a la carte.
As I was leaving, I tuned into The Power Channel 169 and Tavis was interviewing Sheila E. about her family's upcoming Charity Concert, Elevate Hope. Nice!
*Update: What timing! This article came out this morning on the merger! Looks like the XM / Sirius merger has received it's final green light from above. The most interesting details from this article I gained were what does it involve for the consumer, especially those who already own an XM or Sirius Satellite Radio System. Here are some of the highlights that caught my eye:
"Other conditions are similar to promises made by Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin last year."
"They include a three-year freeze on prices and packages that include programs from both services, including a so-called "a la carte" offering that would be available within three months of the close of the deal."
"Karmazin has pledged that the combined company will offer pricing plans ranging from $6.99 per month for 50 channels offered by one service, up to $16.99 a month, where subscribers would keep their existing service plus choose channels offered by the other service."
"The buyout received shareholder approval in November. The companies said the merger will save hundreds of millions of dollars in operating costs, savings that will ultimately benefit their customers.
"Karmazin has pledged that the combined company will offer pricing plans ranging from $6.99 per month for 50 channels offered by one service, up to $16.99 a month, where subscribers would keep their existing service plus choose channels offered by the other service."
"Karmazin also said he will allow customers to choose and pay for only the channels they want. The "a la carte" option will require new radios, the companies have said."
"In addition, the companies have pledged to offer radios that are capable of receiving both services within one year."
