The Urban Network 40 - A Black History Month Salute - Volume 15 Number 6 (February 2004)

(pictured right: current issue of The Urban Network with Alicia Keys)

I found a copy of The Urban Network - Keeping You Industry Connected (February 2004/Usher Cover) - today while doing some routine cleaning up.

I haven't seen this magazine in a while in stores because I would normally pick it up at Tower Records when I would swing through and of course we all know by now Tower has been closed in the D.C. area since December 22nd, 2006.

The last article in the back was so well done and informative, I am surprised I didn't remember it but I knew I kept this magazine for a reason. It is a special compilation on the 40 most influential professionals in the history of the music business. Many names I knew and know but there are many I had only heard of or read in some books I have so it was good to put the faces with the names. I cannot republish the whole article here but the names gives one a good start in the right direction for doing any research.

The following collective represents 40 of the most influential professionals in the history of the music business. Now, we at Urban Network understand that no listing can ever be all-encompassing or completely comprehensive. But the purpose of this article is to make our younger readers aware of some of the trailblazers who paved the way in our business, and to give our more seasoned readers an opportunity to reflect on the influence of these pioneers--many who are still vert active in the in the industry. We purposely omitted any recording artists except in rare cases where they performed entrepreneurial duties as heads of their own record labels. For our critics, this piece will certainly lend itself for debate. Enjoy the read!
