Christmas Music On The Radio Begins
Ah, a program and music director's annual question. When to start playing Christmas music on your radio station? When is too early? How early is too early? How late is too late? Should we mix it in song by song maybe once per hour slowly increasing the closer we get to Christmas or should we just go "All Christmas, All The Time" from now until New Year's Eve?
It's always interesting to me every year to see what dates the stations start blending it in.
So far in the DC/MD/VA area you can hear Continuous Christmas Music on these stations:
101.9 WLIF Lite FM switched on 11/13. (Baltimore beat WASH FM to the holiday punch this year.)
97.1 WASH FM switched on 11/17. (Used to switch the day after Thanksgiving. Still remains Washington's All Christmas Most Popular Music Leader.)
91.9 WGTS FM switched to Continuous Christmas Music on 11/24.
XM Satellite Radio added 5 free Christmas Channels to its lineup on 11/23 (11/13 for xm subscribers).
Selected Holiday Tunes were also heard this week on 96.3 WHUR and MAJIC 102.3 but not on a continuous basis as of yet.
More stations to come. Stay tuned...
