A Different World - A Hillman Reunion Airing on Nick at Nite!

I received several emailes on this as everyone is trying to figure out which night exactly the actual Reunion Show is going to be aired or If there was an actual Reunion show taped this summer. :)

That has been the question, "Did they actually film a reunion show?" and "If so, when is it airing?"

Presently speaking, I have not heard, seen or read that they filmed an actual reunion show that will be airing on Nick at Nite or TVLand but folks are still waiting to see if one will be aired at the end of the two week run on Friday, September 1st or not. So I guess we will find out next week? I hope so. Maybe they will surprise us all and put something on they did in October. Who knows?

I found out by doing a little research that the pics of the cast floating around on the internet (the ones where they are on stage talking to the media) were actually from a press and tv junket tour they did in Pasadena, CA on Monday July 17th, 2006 to promote Nick At Nite's airing of the shows.

The 'A Different World' Season One DVD came out on November 8th, 2005. The DVD came out on UrbanWorks Entertainment urbanworksent.com which is distributed by Ventura Distribution, Inc. It includes cast interviews, out-takes, a retrospective overview of the series with cast members and an un-aired, "lost" episode featuring Tupac Shakur and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

A Different World (September 24, 1987 Through May 8, 1993, 6 seasons on NBC) began running on Nick at Nite on July 22nd, 2006. They are currently showing it at night on both Nick at Nite and on Nick at Nite 2. You can also catch it on oxygen.com.

A Different World has also run in syndication on UPN for at least over 10 years now in various states in the US. As I mentioned on my 'Great Memories of Howard University and The Conscious Era of Hip Hop' post in June, it was truly one of the best shows on TV, especially after Howard Alum Debbie Allen took over the reigns the 2nd season. It just got better and better!

I can remember we would clear out the university library and rush to the dorms or the nearest TV to see this show on Thursday nights at 8:30 P.M. on NBC in 1987 even during Finals Time! LOL! Or if you were at home, you were not only watching, you were taping every episode. I know I did! It came on right after The Cosby Show and finished second in the ratings its first season. And when Whitley and Dwyane Wayne hooked up?! Oh, man, it was major! They were on the cover of every Black Magazine with features being done on them. I can still remember that Essence cover of them! Great cover!

Another example of some great things that were going on right before the internet and the world wide web really started.

Sidenote: Can you imagine if we had the internet in '82, '83, '84, '85, '86, '87, '88, '89, '90, '91, '92?!? I actually can! We would have worked the internet out during those years with so much going on!

Here is the schedule from Nick at Nite's website on A Different World: tvland/nickatnite/differentworld

A Different World also had some cool opening theme songs and intros. Season 1's was OK but when Debbie Allen took over in Season 2, she got Aretha!

Here is the A Different World intro when they got Boys II Men to do it later on in the seasons. Cool too!
