In this interview excerpt, Cronkite discusses how the News handled polling in the 1952 Presidential Election. Walter Cronkite was interviewed for four-and-a-half hours (in two sessions) in New York, NY. Mr. Cronkite described his early journalism days as a print reporter for United Press, anchoring the first televised political conventions, hosting the show You Are There, and how he became managing editor and anchor of the CBS Evening News for 20 years. He gave the Archive a fascinating perspective on how the television press covered some of the 20th Century's most important news events including: Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, John F. Kennedy's assassination, the Vietnam War, and the first moon landing, among many others. Part 1of this two-part interview was conducted by Don Carleton on April 28, 1998.
