"Celebrating 50 Years of Stax Records" Concert at Philly's Mann Music Center Scheduled For Friday, August 15th, 2008 Cancelled

Tom Joyner mentioned this morning on his show that he wondered if they were going to continue with the "Celebrating 50 Years of Stax Records" concert that was scheduled to take place at The Mann Center in Philly this Friday. I know that would have been a great show. Also scheduled to perform were The Bar-Kays, William Bell and Eddie Floyd.

There is a part of me that would like to see them continue with this show and make it a real celebration of not only Stax but a celebration of Isaac Hayes life. To add even more Stax artists to the lineup at this point sharing their music, stories, and memories would really be great but I can understand at the same time the reasons to cancel it. Maybe it was at the family's request which I totally respect.

Here is what The Mann Center's website has posted so far:

"August 11, 2008 -- It is with deep regret that The Mann Center for the Performing Arts announces the cancellation of this Friday's (8/15) "Celebrating 50 Years of Stax Records" concert, due to the sudden death of R & B musical icon, Isaac Hayes."

In the meantime, an excellent site to go to for All Things Stax is the Stax Museum of American Soul Music website: www.soulsvilleusa.com.
