National Geographic February 2008 Issue - 'The Black Pharoahs Conquerors Of Ancient Egypt'
I saw the new February 2008 issue of National Geographic on my way home last night (Tuesday, January 29th) and had to get it.
I was going to post this on Wednesday, January 30th, but I thought posting it on February 1st, the official start of Black History Month would be a great way to kick off the month.
Even though everyone that knows me knows that though I am glad we have Black History Month, I believe that with all of the accomplishments and achievements that we as African Americans have done over the years and continue to do everyday as a people, Black History could never be reduced to the shortest month of the year but is actually 365 days a year!
And, when you add to that, the history and the stories that had been stolen, taken away, destroyed, hidden by results of slavery and colonization, never told or never publically accepted or even known about, you really are talking a 365 year long in- depth look and study to get it all.
This cover story feature begins on page 35:
"An Ignored Chapter Of History Tells Of A Time When Kings From Deep In Africa Conquered Ancient Egypt - Black Pharoahs" By Robert Draper National Geographic Contributing Writer Photographs By Kenneth Garrett.

The title makes me giggle because its an oxymoron. What would be news is white pharoahs and queens. Such as some reports indicate that Cleopatra was indeed from Rome. I'm glad that the mainstream media is beginning to wake up but still they are telling half-truths.
NickyJett, I know what you mean. I like your profile pic! I would love to see a movie and a series of movies on the different great Nubian/Epyptian Dynasties from Egypt.
I think they would be some of the most fascinating, interesting stories that ever hit the silver screen.
I'm talking big scale here too much like the opening scene of "The Mummy" but of course this time, the truth would be told.
Michael Jackson's "Remember The Time" video was the first time I have ever seen black people portraying black people when it comes to Egypt. We need more of that.
The writers would have to start with John Henrik Clarke's books and also Cheikh Anta Diop's books for historical accuracy. An all African/African American cast and crew too would be dynamic!
I'm sorry I meant the title was redundant not an oxymoron...oops
Also thank you for the reference to Cheik Anta Diop. I did a lot of research on the people of Kush for my novel but I did not come across his name. Woo-hoo Now I have another scholar to add to my amazon wish list! (smile)
Lol! Cool! Yes, Cheikh Anta Diop's works are a must read! Peace and Blessings!
