2007 Urban Film Series Tour Schedule Kicks-Off With Celebrity-Filled Five-Day Festival in Washington, DC l Melvin Van Peebles, Yvette Freeman, Roy Ayers, Joseph Marcel, Etan Thomas, and Others to Participate l Regal Cinemas and Landmark Theatre To Host l Poetry and August Wilson Play Included l 2007 Schedule Announced l Van Peebles, Ayers and Freeman to Receive NGAF's Spiritual Legacy Award
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 12, 2007 -- Today, Next Generation Awareness Foundation, Inc. (501(c)(3)) (NGAF), producers of the Urban Film Series Tour, the Black History Month Film & Discussion Series, the Black Docs Film Series and the Urban Film & Discussion Series, announced its 2007 schedule along with preliminary details for its much-anticipated and legendary Black History Month program. NGAF also announced that its primary concern for 2007 will be the self-esteem and direction of children and families in urban communities.
NGAF's heralded Black History Month Film & Discussion Series, which normally tours in February, and premiered last year's Oscar-winning film, Tsotsi, will be held exclusively in Washington, DC, from February 7th - 11th. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority, together, with Insider Entertainment, Regal Cinemas, Landmark Theatres, Arena Stage and Bohemian Caverns helped NGAF expand the program to include notable guests such as filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles, actress Yvette Freeman, jazz musician Roy Ayers, actor Joseph Marcel and Washington Wizards NBA player and poet, Etan Thomas. Van Peebles, Freeman and Ayers will each receive NGAF's Spiritual Legacy Award.
August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean, playing at Arena Stage and featuring Joseph Marcel, will compliment NGAF's February programming. Joseph Marcel is most known for the role of Geoffrey, the butler on NBC's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which featured actor Will Smith. A jazz-poetry fusion, honoring Roy Ayers, will include the Washington Wizards player and poet, Etan Thomas and other celebrity poets from across America.
For 2007, NGAF will continue using its film-related programming to help underserved communities gain exposure to the arts. The year-long fundraising events are a part of NGAF's 'Can-I-Ask-U' philosophy of programs and service, namely Coordinated Awareness Believing In Achievement Through Skills Development and Uplift. "We are excited about our expanded programming for 2007, which, we hope will bring excitement to many communities," says Corey Jennings, founder and project director.
