This week right until today's simulcast on 1450 AM WOL of the Augusta, Georgia James Brown Memorial Service, has been a radio listening treat. Why do I say this? Because from 88.9 WEAA, to 89.3 WPFW, to 92.3 FM "92 Q" in Baltimore, to 93.9 WKYS, to 95.5 WPGC, to 96.3 WHUR, to MAJIC 102.3 FM, hearing the DJ's tributes, On-Air Announcers stories and radio listeners call in and share their personal memories of seeing and meeting James Brown, especially when he came to D.C. to perform at The Historic Howard Theater in the old days right up until James Brown's most recent performance at The 9:30 Club, it's just been an incredible week and very moving. I love these stories. The impact James Brown has people worldwide is amazing.
It seems like every James Brown fan over 40 had a James Brown story to tell and they all were good and interesting. From concert reports to having lunch or dinner with the man, to getting an autograph, it is clear James Brown was a man who loved people and loved his fans.
And to hear the young Hip-Hoppers give it up for The Godfather was something else. I hope they heard Reverend Al Sharpton's words on the standard James Brown set from today's service on Real Music, Content of Lyrics and Quality of Song. Talk about "word em up!" Reverend Al, speak that truth!
This week was an example of why LT Loves Radio!
Peace!
