
Ruth Brown who was born January 12th, 1928 in Portsmouth, VA passed away in a Las Vegas-area hospital on November 17th, 2006, at the age of 78 from complications following a heart attack and stroke she suffered after surgery in October 2006.
Ruth Brown was one of The Rhythm and Blues Foundation's first Pioneer Award Honorees in 1989. She won a Tony Award as Best Actress in a Musical in 1989 for the revue Black & Blue. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
Ruth Brown's most famous hits were "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean," "Lucky Lips," and "Teardrops From My Eyes." Eventually, she became equally well known as a Jazz singer, winning a Grammy Award for the album "Blues on Broadway."
