Superman Returns - Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...(yawn)...oh, it's Superman.

OK. I saw Superman Returns. supermanreturns

(Yawn) Oh! I'm sorry! (In Steve Urkel voice) Did I do thaaaaaat? LOL! This movie was, how can I put it?

The website is better then the movie. Is that too harsh? LOL!

Being fare, the crossover from comics to film is always going to be a challenge. I have said this before and I will say this again after watching Superman Returns, we still have not seen the ultimate comics to film movie. Some have come close but the ultimate one I feel is still coming. I believe it will involve more than one Superhero and more than one villian and no, X-Men 3 was not it! But that's a whole nother story.

OK, here's a quick one for you - X Men, very empty feeling with not enough characters from the comic, X Men II, better, much better but I wanted more, X Men III, even better in scenes but still not the ultimate comics to film I feel we will see in this lifetime.

Question: Why does it take 3 times to get something right?
Question: How can a story become so well known to fans that thier ideas for the movie are actually better then the writers, producers and directors of that film?
Question of another kind for another movie: How can you capture lightning in a bottle for your first movie and then all the rest of the sequels suck?
Question: How can you destroy a masterpiece?

But I digress! For another post! Back to Superman Returns!

Keeping the famous opening credits sequence was smart and so was keeping John Williams original score though this time it was conducted by someone else.

OK, I went to the Men's Room once and I went to the Concession Stand once too. Both times without having any feeling to rush back! LOL! Not a good sign! I even thought to myself, "I can't believe I am standing in the Popcorn line, there are 5 people in front of me and I have no feelings to rush back to my seat." LOL!

Anybody that knows me knows I never will do that on a movie, especially when it comes to Sci-Fi or Fantasy. If LT left a Sci-Fi or Fantasy movie twice?! LOL! Houston, we got problems! LOL! Houston, there are some issues goin' on down here! LOL!

Some people, I am sure though will really like it. Some may even really love it. I wouldn't say it was a complete flop or failure, I would just say I was expecting much more. Particularly story wise.

Where can I begin? Once again, Hollywood showed too many trailers for this movie. Too many! As usual, hardly anything new or surprising was left when it came to the big scenes.

The storyline, how was it?

As anyone knows or who visits comic book stores, bookstores, etc., every month there has to be at least 5 to 10 different story scenarios running on Superman all by different artists and writers, etc.

I left with the feeling that the directors and producers of this film went with this one storyline. One amongst hundreds they could have chosen from.

I don't want to give everything away but, did thier story work?

They did some things right like going back to his Crystal Home we saw in the 1980 movie. I had been wanting them to explore this some more but I actually wanted to see them go back to his home planet more in detail before the explosion. They could have gotten busy with that!

The Brando footage was not what I expected, I expected more because I actually saw pictures of some of it online last year. I thought they were going to include all of that and even have Brando walk out of the Crystal Hologram and come out 3-D style to talk to him one on one. Did they do that? Nope! LOL!

Lex Luther. Kevin Spacey is a good actor and he did a good job but I am beyond Lex Luther. I thought they were going to give Superman a real villian nemisis. Something we haven't seen before.

The actress who played Lois Lane I thought did a good job. Believable.

The movie is done in a very big, artistic, sweeping way cinematography wise and there are some things about it I would like to see again, but something was still missing to me overall.

Would I see it again?

Yeah, I might see it one more time in the big theaters. I think the DVD will have more to offer possibly because of all the Bonus Features they will put on it.

Initially, I was excited to hear they were making a new one but I knew I felt funny about this movie the days before I saw it for some reason I coudn't put my finger on. I think it is because I was feeling kind of indifferent and kind of unsure about what they were going to do with this whole Franchise.

Is this review based on Brandon Routh's performance? Not necessarily. The big, 6'2, 26-year-old kid did alright for what he brought to the game. Did I compare his performance to Christopher Reeve's while watching it? I tried not to but people undoubtedly will who have seen the other Supe movies.

Christopher Reeve I thought definitely raised the bar on that role in the first one in 1978, so how can you get around that comparison?

The story was something they could have saved the $250 million on and just put on TV or cable.

The Special Effects?

Yes, I expect them to be better with each film I see every year out here in general. Heck, sometimes I see movies not even worrying about the story, I just wanna see "Where are we now with the special effects out here? How good has it gotten now? What can the latest computer software and hardware technology do this time?"

Is it worth your $9 or $10?

Yeah, it's worth a looksee once. But if I could do it over again, I would have caught it at the matinee showing.

Overall, I give it a solid C because there was just so much more they could have done with it. The audience I was with did clap at the end though but it seemed to be more of a "out of respect for what they did with this" polite applause then any raving applause.

"Look! Up in the Sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's....Zzzzzzz!" (man wakes up) "So what cha'll doin after this?" LOL!

Maybe the sequel will be better.
